Home: Welcome

Have you ever been told that you are “too sensitive” or “shy”? Are you strongly affected by other people’s moods? Have you ever felt like you are trying harder at life than others? Do you feel guilty for wanting to say no? Do you often put other people’s needs ahead of your own? If so, you might be a part of the 20 percent of the population born with the trait of high sensitivity.

I strive to be authentic and present with my clients. I partner with my clients in their healing. My goal is for my clients to feel safe and at ease. I encourage questions and discussion of any concerns!

I specialize in working with teens and adults who are highly sensitive or HSPs and HSPs who are in relationships with non HSPs.  I completed Dr. Elaine Aron's Therapist training in 2016. I am also an HSP.

I also enjoy working with birth trauma, infertility, new parents, anxiety, depression, teens, college students, all servicemembers including veterans and grief and loss.

I am also trained in EMDR therapy which works well with processing and healing trauma.

I believe in the power of connection and the therapeutic relationship. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit. If for some reason it does not feel like a good fit, I will be happy to assist you in finding someone who is.

Highly Sensitive Person

According to Dr. Elaine Aron, about 20 percent of the population has the trait of High Sensitivity. Having this trait has its gifts and challenges. You may be Highly Sensitive if you process things deeply, are easily overwhelmed, have deep empathy and are highly aware. Here is a link to the HSP screening test- https://hsperson.com/test/highly-sensitive-test/

EMDR Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was founded by Francine Shapiro. EMDR is a therapeutic technique that helps process multiple types of trauma and emotional distress. EMDR is extensively studied and consistently shows quick results.

Infertility

Infertility is unfortunately not talked about enough. There can be a lot of shame associated with infertility and you can feel very alone and extremely overwhelmed. I understand this struggle personally as my spouse and I went through almost 6 years of infertility. This included lots of testing, multiple IUIs, IVF and years of working with a reproductive naturopath. Support during this time is so important.

Birth Trauma

According to Postpartum Support International, postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder effects about 9 percent of women. This is in correlation with an actual or perceived danger during birth and postpartum. I believe that every parent should be able to process their birth experience with someone who can hold that space and be an empathic listener.

Fee information

My fee per session is $140

Good Faith Estimate

Starting January 2022 you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate that gives an estimate of costs of services. This is the "No Surprise Act".

Health care providers under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, are required to inform a person who either does not have insurance or who are not planning on using insurance a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges for psychotherapy.

My rate is $140 per session. I usually see clients 1 time per week or 2 times per month. This is an average (with holidays taken out) for 12 months of $3,360-$6,720. This does not include any emergency sessions that would be in addition to "regular" scheduled sessions. Sometimes a client experiences a traumatic event and may need more than weekly sessions. These sessions would not be included in this average estimate.

This is an estimate on a typical client. I can not know for sure an individual's estimate until I have seen and assessed them and made proper diagnosis.

Under this Act you have the right to dispute any bills that are more than $400 over your most recent Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.  I am available to discuss fees and your individual Good Faith Estimate. Please email me at Bdawsoncounseling@gmail.com, or call 214-517-0837
